our Jack-Be-Little pumpkin tradition

We love tradition–there is something quaint about establishing them and adding to them each year. While we’ve attempted many things in Halloweens past, the only thing that has remained a steady tradition for us are, Jack-be-little pumpkins. These petite pumpkins serve as our decoration and are then transform them into a simple dessert on Halloween day!

If you enjoy eating ice cream atop your brownies, you may want to try this : )
We were inspired by this recipe, but created our own recipe a while back, here it is:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350F.

2. Rinse off the pumpkin, slice off a little of the top, take out seeds.

3. Melt about 1/2 tsp butter in each pumpkin on half -power in microwave (vary according to size), sprinkle with approx 1/2 tsp of spice (cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg…)

4. Bake for 30-35 minutes until tender.  Ours looked liked this:

5. Leave them to cool for about 15 minutes. Add ice cream and dust with cinnamon sugar and you’ve got dessert in cute little pumpkins!

I love the coziness of the warmth and cold juxtaposed in my mouth!

*We honestly just eyeballed how much cinnamon/nutmeg/all spice we put in each pumpkin--they're so tiny. This variety of pumpkin tastes distinctly different than others so we didn't want to overwhelm its natural flavor! Our pumpkins were about 4 inches in diameter so we used about 1/2 tsp of spice and about 1/2 tsp of butter, a little more for slightly larger pumpkins.

Other Halloween happenings…

If you don’t already know, our last name is Kao, but it is pronounced, “Ga-ow.” It is often mispronounced as, “cow”— and I really love that about my last name : ) So, for our friend’s Halloween party, We Kaos, went as cows…

Daniel is a brown cow (we ran out of cow fabric and white t-shirts that could be upcycled)

I couldn’t resist.

The only problem is, we were strapped for time (less than 2 hours) so, I feel like I did a haphazard job of painting on the cow spots. We got creative with the ears and  I think the cow bells tied everything together. I’ve been wanting to do this ever since I made Emmy’s mobile pictured here. I upcyced an old PJ gown for her costume, so there is a flap that folds over into her hooves, but she likes sucking on her fingers so we left them out….

Anyway, It was a fantastic party!

Hope ya had great Halloween!
